What To Do When A Pipe Bursts

Turn off your main water

When your pipe burst you need to stop the water from flowing. Completely switch off the water using your main shut off valve for your home. This valve could be in your basement or near your water heater.

Turn off electricity to the affected part of your home

This a precaution against shocks.

Call a plumber

You may need to have a plumber repair any burst pipes you have.

Call a restoration company

Hidden water damage is the main problem. It may seem that you have mopped up and dried out all the water. Unless the water damage is completely dried out by a restoration company you may have problems with mold.

Drain your faucets

Before the plumber arrives you may want to drain your faucets. Make sure the water supply is turned off. Open the taps to drain remaining water in the system-COLD TAPS FIRST. Also, flush your toilets multiple times.
